Dave Min: Separating Facts from Fiction

Dave Min: A Victim of False Attacks – Learn the Truth

In the spirit of transparency and truth, we find it imperative to address a series of false allegations that have been circulating about our endorsed Congressional candidate, Dave Min. It's crucial in these times of rampant disinformation to base our opinions and decisions on verified facts and genuine understanding. The following clarifications aim to shed light on recent claims, providing our members with the accurate information needed to make informed judgments about Dave's character and his commitment to our shared values.

False: “The DUI makes Dave Min unfit to serve.”

The truth: Dave immediately reported the DUI himself, apologized, and took responsibility to make sure it would never happen again.

As the LA Times wrote in their endorsement of Dave, “Min never treated [the DUI as a trivial incident]. He immediately made a straightforward public statement about his arrest and apologized. He didn’t try to make excuses or pretend that the arrest was unfair, overblown, or an attack on liberalism…More politicians who err badly should follow his example.”

False: “Dave Min was a law school faculty advisor for the conservative Federalist Society, so he’s a closeted anti-choice Republican.”

The truth: Advising the Federalist Society is within the principles of academic freedom that imbues our institutions of higher education.

Writing in response to the wild claims that Dave Min is a closeted conservative and anti-choice, former UCI Law School Dean and progressive stalwart, Erwin Chemerinsky wrote:

“When Dave Min joined the faculty of UC Irvine School of Law, he was a leading progressive voice on financial regulation and banking policy, and his progressive political leanings were well known to students and faculty alike. His role in advising the Federalist Society was consistent with the broader academic mission of promoting robust debate and free speech. In fact, Senator Min was following the example that I set, as I was the very first academic advisor to the Federalist Society at UCI Law. The implication that Dave Min was secretly a closet right winger is absurd and contradicted by the substantial weight of his entire career.”

In fact, Dave Min is the ONLY candidate in the race for Congress who is rated 100% by Planned Parenthood and NARAL, not just this year but for the past 3 years.

False: “Dave Min promised to not take corporate PAC money, but he did.”

The truth: Dave Min has consistently upheld his commitment to campaign finance integrity.

When he campaigned for Congress in 2018, he made a clear pledge to refuse corporate PAC contributions, a promise he has upheld for his 2024 Congressional race in which he has not taken any corporate PAC money.

It's important to recognize that the fundraising landscape for California state races is markedly different, governed by a distinct set of rules and requirements. This divergence meant that during his 2020 state senate campaign, Dave -- as well as Cottie Petrie-Norris, Josh Newman, and anyone else running for state office -- engaged with business and business-related PACs, a common practice in state legislative campaigns.

This approach did not contradict his earlier commitments, as those pledges were specific to his congressional campaigns. Dave remains dedicated to transparent and principled campaign financing.
